Eye Test in Nairobi: What to Expect Before, During and After
An eye test is more than reading letters on a chart. It brings your symptoms, daily visual demands and clinical measurements together so you leave with a clear next step.
Before your appointment
Bring the glasses or contact lenses you currently use, any recent prescription, a list of medicines and your insurance details. Note when blur, headaches, glare or eye strain occur—at a screen, while reading, or when driving.

Checks you may have during an eye test
Visual acuity checks how clearly you see at different distances. Digital autorefraction provides an objective starting measurement, followed by subjective refraction where the optometrist refines the lenses with your feedback.
A slit-lamp assessment gives a magnified view of the front structures of the eye. When clinically appropriate, tonometry measures eye pressure as one part of glaucoma risk assessment. Additional checks depend on your symptoms, age and health history.
Understanding your results
Your prescription may include sphere, cylinder and axis values, plus an addition for near work when needed. Ask your optometrist to explain whether your vision has changed and which lens design fits your routine.

When not to wait for a routine test
Sudden vision loss, a new curtain or shadow, eye injury, severe eye pain, or a sudden burst of flashes and floaters needs urgent medical assessment. Contact an emergency eye-care service rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
